Huge Florida vs Georgia game could draw thousands to Tampa in 2027

The University of Florida (UF), the University of Georgia (UGA), and Tampa Bay officials have announced that the iconic Florida-Georgia Football Weekend will move to Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium for the 2027 season. The game’s relocation from its usual site in Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium — due to stadium renovations — will bring it to Atlanta in 2026 and Tampa in 2027.

Rob Higgins, Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, expressed excitement about hosting the high-stakes matchup. “The Florida-Georgia game is one of college football’s greatest spectacles, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to host in 2027,” said Higgins. “Tampa Bay has a deep appreciation for college football, and this game will play a major role in our community’s next chapter.”

Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is no stranger to major events. Alongside the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship and Super Bowl LV, the stadium hosts marquee events like the ReliaQuest Bowl, Gasparilla Bowl, and Monster Jam.

UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin emphasized the special connection Tampa holds for the Gators, adding, “Raymond James Stadium will be a fantastic venue for fans of both schools.” Meanwhile, UGA’s Athletics Director, Josh Brooks, highlighted the opportunity to create a first-class experience during EverBank’s renovations, calling the relocation a fitting continuation of the rivalry’s tradition.

Set to be played outside Jacksonville for the first time since 1995, the game brings historic significance to Tampa. Hillsborough County Commission Chairman Ken Hagan, a UF alumnus, expressed pride in bringing the game to Tampa, calling it a “bucket-list” achievement.
